Scrubs for PJ's

Recently I was at a friends house and she was lounging around in a pair of scrubs. I guess I should mention that she is not a nurse or a doctor. When I asked her why she was wearing her green scrubs, she explained to me that she wears them as PJ's and to lounge around the house. She went on to explain that she had found that they were the more comfortable than a pair of sweat pants.

When I got to thinking about it. Sometimes sweat pants and shirts are very unflattering. The scrubs gave her the loose freedom sweats do, but they did not look frumpy. So I went online to purchase me a pair of women's scrubs for myself. If you happen to show up at my house and see me lounging around in a pair of scrubs, you will know that I have not decided to become Doctor Grandma.

Harlem Globe Trotters

I think I have revealed that I am no spring chicken. In fact, I am not ashamed to let my readers know that I am 46 years old. Why am I sharing this information with you? I ran across an article online recently that was talking about the Harlem Globetrotters. I was stunned that they are still around. I know that the same players that were playing when I was a kid are not on the team, but the fact that the team still exist was amazing to me. At the same time, it wasn't. I can remember as a child my grandmother talking me to see the Harlem Globetrotters. To me they were the most amazing athletes in the world. That was over 35 years ago and they are still going strong. Out of curiosity, I went to their web site to find out where they are playing and get more information on the teams schedule. After the first of the year you can catch a game in Auburn Hills, MI at the Palace of Auburn Hills or the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN. If it is too cold in Michigan and Indiana for you this time of year they will be playing in Phoenix, AZ at the US Airways Center and Arco Arena in Sacramento, CA. For those of you on the east coast what better place to watch the amazing Harlem Globetrotters, but at the Madison Square Garden. No matter where you view the game, I am sure you will enjoy the game. Take a loved one and make memories. Trust me when I say, my grandmother made memories with me that I will never forget.

Fire Damage

It's hard to believe it's been almost one year since my dad and his wife's apartment caught on fire. They were moved to another apartment and have moved on with their life. We were talking the other day and he was telling me about all the work the apartment complex put in to restoring their old apartment and the other apartments that received damage from the fire and the water. It's shame that the apartment complex spent so much money tearing out and replacing when there are companies out there that can actually clean up these damages without the extensive tear out and rebuild.

Companies like The Steam Team of Texas. With over 18 years of experience this company is available 24 hours a day. They can solve your fire & water damage in the Austin area. Dealing with water damage in the Austin area this company's high quality work and customer satisfaction are a priority. No job is too big or too small for this company, they even have organic carpet cleaning in Austin.

Knowing that there are companies out there like the Steam Team, is reassuring that if needed there is a less evasive way to handle water damage.

Blessed and Busy

I love this time of year, it keeps my very busy. The harvest from the garden, the fruit trees, preparing the gardens for winter, getting ready for our annual vacation and family in general keep me on my toes. I love the smell of autumn and the beautiful colors. I haven't even had time to get the ole camera out. Hopefully on our trip to the Ozarks I'll get some camera time in. This year we were busy canning applesauce, apple butter, pear honey, salsa, wild grape jelly, concord grape jelly, peach jam, wild plum preserves. Also, making wine and elderberry tincture. I still need to harvest my eucalyptus plant to make oil for my candles and harvest the last of the mint to make tea bags. On top of all the abundance of harvest we received this year, we also received a whole lot of yarn. My daughter and I have been crocheting hats. I'll have to take the time post a picture of some of the hats we are making. If all goes as planned and you know it never does, I will also be able to finish the quilt I started in Feb. of '09. Ok, realistically I won't finish before Feb. 0f '11. Either way, have plenty to do to keep me busy, when I get some down time I'll post on here to keep you all informed.

Scrubs

Yesterday I was helping a friend of mine locate nursing scrubs on the internet. I have several friends that are nurses or in the medical/naturalistic field. I thought to myself, I should share the information I found so others can benefit too and save themselves some time.

We were looking to buy scrubs for cheap, so we began with a google search. One of the things that caught my attention when looking at Blue Sky Scrubs was that every uniform purchased they donate a hat (to a cancer patient or to the customer to give to a cancer patient). I like companies that give back or have charities they donate to. If you know someone or are looking for scrubs yourself, you should definately check this web site out.

Something To Share

My Iris with a Bee on it

A Peaceful Sunset

A Cluster of Wild Mushrooms

A Gorgeous Double Rainbow

While I have been busy with gardening, my grandchild, canning and all the fun stuff that keeps me busy living in the country; I have also been spending time taking pictures. I thought I would post of few from this beautiful summer.

Tire Chain

It's already football time, fall festival time, and the people are already looking forward to the winter months. I hate to think snow when I am still gardening, but the reality of it is, I would rather prepare for the winter weather now instead of trying to deal with it later. I ran across this website recently and was impressed and thought I would share it with all of you.

My husband and I agree that I take care of my car and he takes care of all the others. I make sure the fluids are checked, the car is maintenanced regularly and prepared for all seasons. When I found these tire chains online I was so excited, because they are simple enough for me to put on. They help you choose which tire chain is best for you and offer youtube.com videos how to place them on your tire. I know no one wants to be caught in the severe winter weather without being prepared. Tire chains can make this winter a safer, less frustrating and stress free winter driving for you. Don't wait until you are knee deep in snow to check out this website.

Been Gone Too Long

Wow, I have finally had time to write again. I never thought being a grandma would consume so much of my time. Mine you, it's my own selfishness that has me spending so much time with my granddaughter. I never would have thought it would be so wonderful to have a little one around the house again. I am hoping to get back to my writing and hear what all you have on your mind as well. Look forward to hearing from you.

The Spray Paint Incident

Guest post written: by Samantha Warren

Every Thursday afternoon night my daughter and the other cheerleaders on their squad use our yard to make a banner for the JV football they will cheer at that night.

Normally they like to come up with some smart and funny saying to demean the other team’s mascot. We have a big yard and them doing this wasn’t a problem until on Thursday afternoon last football season. One of the girls, Ariana, who is pretty clumsy, was trying to paint the head of a Viking (their school’s mascot) onto the banner when someone came up behind her and scared her. She jumped up with her finger still on the button of spray paint can. It unfortunately resulted in black spray paint on our cream-colored siding. To make matters worse, they were in the front yard so it was very obvious.

She felt terrible, but I understood it was an accident and had been shopping around a little bit for new siding before that anyway. I went through Home Pro Improvements and picked out a Tuscan Clay color that will hide dirt, just as a precaution.

ADT Home security

It's been awhile since I have last posted an entry on my blog. I bet you were wondering what happened to me. Life has happened. If you have been following my blogs, you know that I am a new grandmother. With our new addition to the family, I have been busy enjoying life. I tend to be protective of my kids and now my grandchild. Even more so now that there have been recent home invasions in our area. It doesn't matter where you live, in he country or the city, home security is important.

ADT has a home security team that will help you make your home safe and secure. Besides providing a safe home for your family, you can benefit with lower home owner insurance cost when you have a security system installed in your home. For tips how to make your home safe, Fort Worth P.D. provides a web site for homeowners. As a daughter and wife of police officers, I personally feel taking the police security tips is a wise choice for any homeowner.

People get comfortable in their surroundings and never think something bad could happen to them in their own home. That is what criminals rely on, a homeowners lack of preparedness. Take the time to secure your home and your loved ones before you become the victim.

These are not the ramblings of a grandmother/mother, but from a woman that has lived with police officers. Taking the proper precautions can prevent most home invasions. Your family and property are worth the investment.

1800flowers.com Mother's Day Order

I was gardening this week, which made me think about this time of year when I will send Mother's Day flowers. As I planted my flowers and plants in the garden I thought I should send my mom something that reminds me of spring and planting.

I went to 1800flowers.com to see what special Mothers Day floral arrangements they had this year. I have used 1800flowers.com for several years, because they deliver your flowers on time and you can count on your arrangements to be exactly what you expected. They also offer same day delivery for those of us who are procrastinators.

I found an adorable spring country rose garden arrangement. I know my mom will love these tiny little roses. I can't wait to see her reaction to this tiny rose garden. You'll have to visit their site and let me know what you think.

Recently I have given some thought to getting a new puppy. I was an a pet store and feel in love with a french bulldog. These are the most adorable puppies you have ever seen. I am still trying to convince my husband we need another dog, so I went online to check out places that sell french bulldogs. I ran across this site and wanted to share it with all my blog friends.

Quality Time With Your Child

When you have more then one child there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day. Finding time for each individual child is very important. This will help your child develop a special relationship with you as a parent. It also will create lasting memories for both you and your child. That doesn't mean it is not important to have family time. My motto is, a family that plays together stays together.

Setting up schedules or mommy or daddy time is the best way to remember these special times for your child. It can be as simple as a lunch date for the two of you or a date night out to dinner and a movie. When times were too hectic and our budget didn't allow for eating out, I would take only one child with me to the store. The time we had together was special and the child would get to pick out something for us to bake at home with the other children. If dad has to run errands, the child can go with him as a helper. Making the child feel special. The goal to your individual time is for you to listen to their heart. I found, as my children grew older, our alone time was when they would confide in me privately about things that were on their mind. I never had to ask them to share their heart I just listened.

your child is never too old to not have mom/dad time. Every child wants to feel important to its parents. If there are multiple children in the home, an older child may not be able to find the personal time to discuss with you private issues. Making that time available to them, without them asking for it, shows them you understand their needs.

If you find that you did not find time during the day to spend personal time with your child, do not panic. Tucking your child into bed and listening to their day will make a world of difference to your child. My parents had a half hour interval between each child. The youngest going to bed first and the oldest last. This would be a good situation if you wanted to spend quality time with each child. Remember, it isn't the quantity but the quality of time you spend with your children.

Wedding Cake and Shower cakes

Why is it that bridal/baby shower and wedding cakes taste so much better then the white cakes we make at home. Today I picked up the baby shower cake (white cake) for the baby shower I am having for my daughter in law. When I ordered the cake I ordered two dozen extra cupcakes. I figured if I didn't order extra cupcakes, my son would steal a piece of the cake before Sunday. So tonight after dinner we all had a cupcake and I tell you it's like eating a slice of heaven. It's a good thing we don't have these cakes very often, I don't need the extra calories.

Too Much Painting

I have the ability to organize, clean, cook and teacher children, but I do not have painting skills. I can draw pictures and paint fairly well but when it comes to painting rooms in a house, I'm not your girl. Why is that? I am not that uncoordinated. This past week my family has been tackling our "to do" list. All the things we have left undone. We carpeted my office, painted 2 bathrooms, touched up the trim in the whole house and painted my bedroom. When I tried to help someone would suggest I do something else. This did not hurt my feelings as I truly hate to paint. I would rather clean up he mess or prep for the painting.

The house looks great and it feels so good to get it all accomplished. A perfect way to utilize this cold icky weather and have the house repair jobs finished, so when spring comes I can play outside in my gardens.

Twilight and Flowers

I think I might actually be one of the very few people who have not seen the movie Twilight. I have never been into vampires, so I never went to see the movie. Although, I know people really liked this movie and found it fascinating. While browsing one of my favorites web sites 1800flowers.com. I saw they have a Twilight Valentine's Day Flowers special for those fans. If you purchase a dozen roses, you receive a Twilight DVD with extras. They have several Twilight bundles from which you can choose.

If you are thinking of ordering flowers for your loved one you can be guaranteed that there are no extra hidden fees. MSNBC.com did an article on flowers prices and companies that sell flowers on the internet. 1800flowers.com was praised for their no hidden cost or fees. I have always liked this site and think you might want to stop by and look around.

Flowers Flowers Everywhere

This time of year everyone is thinking of flowers to send to their loved ones on Valentines Day. No matter where you go, you see advertisement for flowers. Being the curious person that I am, I tend to go to these web sites and look around. It is so much fun to see the different romantic and beautiful flowers.

Personally I like the roses best. Call me old fashion, but a gorgeous bouquet of red roses are my favorite. Although there was the romantic bouquet of roses in different shades of pink and lavender roses with plum colored calla lilies in it. There are so many choices on these sites, you will have to go visit them and choose for yourself. What is great about this site is the same day delivery. This comes in handy for the people who tend to procrastinate.

I Love Flowers

I don't know about other women, but I love to receive a bouquet of flowers from my husband. It lets me know that he was thinking of me. He doesn't do it often, but that is what makes it so special. He is not like other guys that buy their wives or girlfriends flowers on valentines day, birthdays, anniversaries and mother's day. He buys them on rare occasions to just let me know he loves me.

I personally like to buy flowers for my loved ones. I usually order them over the internet and have them sent. There is nothing like receiving a bouquet while you are at work. I am like my husband and prefer to buy them for no reason, just because. 1800flowers.com has a great selection of roses and has same day delivery. Right now they have a Valentines Day special with free shipping and no service charge. This is a good buy for all you guys that spent Super Bowl Sunday ignoring your wife or girlfriend. Trust me when I say, she will forgive you and love you for being so thoughtful.

Window Hazard for Birds

My husband built a four season room on to our home several years ago. With all the windows on this room we occasionally have a bird fly into the window and knock themselves silly. Most of the time, my husband is there and will pick the bird up and bring it inside. We place it in a cage until it comes out of the shock and then we release it. Most of the time they are little sparrows, but today a female cardinal hit the window. We took a couple of pictures of her, she is so beautiful. I wanted to share them with you all. Enjoy!

Almost Here

Time is drawing nearer as we wait for the upcoming arrival of our grandchild. We have been busy buying last minute necessities. My daughter in law is in wonderful health and the baby is very active. My son gets more excited everyday! Last week I did a photo session with the two of them. This is the popular thing to take photos of the pregnant mom and daddy to be. It was so much fun! I'm posting just one of the photos, that came out so cute.

I think to myself, they have no idea how quiet their life is now and how non-hectic their life is now. It's all about to change. I look forward to watching my son and his wife grow into parenthood. I'll keep you all posted on the upcoming events.

New Toy for Hubby

My husband has a love for flying and any kind of aircraft. He received his private pilots license in the early 1990's, which gives me some confidence in his flying. I have flown with him many of times and he is a very competent pilot. His passion for flying and aircraft is enduring.

Throughout the years he has purchased ultralight planes. Buying and selling these planes determined by our income or the need for money at the time. Recently, he acquired another ultralight in a barter for a couple of horses, a horse trailer and a utility trailer. Buying these planes usually involve purchasing parts to repair or improve them. I am the go to girl when looking to find parts. Recently while searching for parts I ran across a web site that I found interesting.

Zippy is Sending Her Love

I have had several people asking me how Zippy is doing. She is doing much better. I have found more time to cuddle with her and she isn't whining as much. As I type this blog she is staring at me wanting me to get off the computer and watch a movie with her. I thought I would show you how pitiful she looks when she wants my attention. Signing off to go watch a movie with Zippy.

Computer Problems

This past week I have not posted because I was frustrated with my computer. Last Monday I spent the day helping my husband battle a worm on his computer, solved the problem by going through the DOS to use an antivirus program. While helping him, I was downloading stuff on my computer (from the net) to help him. I must have picked up a buggie bo that caused my computer started running slow and having difficulty opening programs. I put of dealing with it intently all week...too much going on here....so I ended up trying to fix it on Friday. Well, to sum it all up I had to reformat my computer...fun fun. Spent the evening last night putting programs back on my computer and trying to remember what sites I had in favorites and user names and passwords. With this all done, I did not want to be on the computer at all today. Although, I am on here tonight to post a note to thank everyone who commented on my post and dropped me a note through other sites. So I am back up and running again and will post another picture of Zippy for you all to see.

What's Up With Zippy?

This past week my dog, Zippy, has been driving my entire family crazy. She has been following us around and whining. She usually only does this when she is in heat or having a false pregnancy, both of which she is not. She has become very needy and demanding of our attention. How does she do this you ask? She will stand in front of you if you are sitting, standing or walking and stare at you while giving us her "puppy dog" look. If that doesn't work she whines.

I have been busy with my writing and seeking employment, as well as my husband and daughter. So, all this whining and neediness could be a result from a lack of attention to the "princess". When my sons gets home from work she runs to them and employs her pitiful behavior on him. As you can see from the picture above, they are suckers for her.

I am now in search of some doggie psychologist to help me figure out how to deal with this spoiled dog. I have completely made a mess of this dog and have to fix it before we all go crazy and I find a job outside the home. Any suggestions are appreciated. I guess I just need to put a sign on my door that says, slave to needy dog .

Bed and Breakfast

My secret vacation would involve a Bed and Breakfast. I think they are so romantic. I recently discovered a Bed and Breakfast Paris has to offer, how romantic! While sightseeing Paris you can travel by bus, which looks like so much fun. You might even be able to see Thalasso Bretagne while you are there. You'll have to check these places out. I bet you'll find them as wonderful and romantic as I did.

How to Accompany on Piano

I have to admit I am musically illiterate. No kidding, I have tried to play several different instruments throughout my life, which usually ended in someone begging me to stop. My husband on the other hand has a natural talent and thankfully my children were blessed with his genes. The one instrument I have always wanted to be able to play is the piano. While I was online googling the other day I ran across a web site on how to accompany on the piano. I found it completely fascinating and thought I would share it with my blogging friends.

It is a series of 3 DVD course on how to accompany a singer on the piano. It teaches you how to break down a chord and make choral notes that are interesting. It also shows a variety of rhythm styles that can be introduced. It sounds like so much fun. This DVD set sounds like it would be a lot of fun to try out. I think after I accomplish Mary Had a Little Lamb, I might give this a try.

Beautiful Blogger Award Goes To........

I was recently awarded a beautiful blogger award from a very sweet lady. The rules of receiving this award is to pass along this award to 7 others and to reveal 7 things about your self that not many others know.

1) As a child I slept with my glasses on in case the boogey man showed up, I could see him.

2) I love to pull pranks on other people and tend to laugh when someone else falls down or hurts them self. My good friend, Andrea has this same affliction.

3) I have absolutely no patience. Okay, this one is obvious if you already know me....but at least I am willing to admit it. Next step, therapy :)

4) I use to play cowboys with the neighbor kids when I was young. We would drink pickle juice and pretend it was beer. In our mind it was so horrible tasting, that was the closest thing you could get to beer without drinking it.

5) I would love to go back to college and get a journalism degree.

6) I have achluophobia (fear of dark) and aquaphobia (fear of drowning).

7) would love to travel all over the world and do missionary work.

Babies R US

As a soon to be grandmother, I take my job seriously. That would include shopping. I went with my daughter in law to register at the local Baby R Us store yesterday. It was so exciting and exhausting! Where do you begin with all the latest gadgets for babies? I was overwhelmed with the items they have for these new parents. It amazes me that we ever raised children without these gadgets. They have car seats that have attachments to your stroller. Heaven forbid you actually take the child out of the car seat and place it in the stroller. How did we ever survive? They also have these pillows/foam forms for the nursing mother. I can remember a day when you actually help your child while he/she was nursing. They have swings. slings and things that glow. Not sure how a child will be able to sleep with the solar system on the ceiling. Instead of counting sheep I imagine it will count stars. I will admit it was alot of fun, these new fangled contraptions are very interesting.

My personal moment of "ahhh" was in the child proofing your home area. Child proofing your home is now an art form. If it opens, they have a lock for it. If it turns on, they have a guard for it. The only thing it doesn't protect the child from is life. Give them a few years, I'm sure they will sell a very expensive gadget for it.

Parco San Marco

I don't know about anyone else, but winter's cold weather has left me wanting a beautiful warm vacation. I was surfing the internet the other day and came across the beautiful Italian, Lake Lugano vacation. On one of the private beaches of Lake Lugano is a resort called Parco San Marco. It is a fabulous Italian Spa Hotel which has something for everyone needing to get away and find a inner peace. Their spa focuses on holistic health that incorporates body, spirit and soul. I definitely would enjoy the luxury of a day of massages and meditation.

My husband on the other hand would rather enjoy golf at the Lake Como Golf Course. A Parco San Marco receptionist will gladly reserve his start time and all he would have to do is hop on the shuttle that they provide to the golf course. He doesn't even need to worry about packing his clubs, as they have club rentals at Parco San Marcos partners -Golfclub Menaggio & Cadenabbia. Which also provides private lessons to improve his game.

Both of us would enjoy the private beaches of Lake Lugano and the beautiful pools at Parco San Marco. A sun and spa vacation is definitely what I need. No more Midwest winter for me!

The Power of Prayer

Scientifically, studies show that the power of prayer can heal a body. My personal opinion is your faith that the prayer will be answered is the reason you are healed. After reading another blogger's article, this blog was inspired along with certain events in my life recently. The mind is one of the most fascinating creations. We haven't even began to understand the depths of the power our minds yield. I do not buy into the "new age" thinking. I believe our creator made a marvelous creation, our minds. The power of positive thinking or negative thinking (stinkin thinkin, as I call it).

On our journey through life the people who surround you can either edify you or bring you down. These things effect how you think and feel. When you speak love and kindness and positive things to those around you it lifts them up and you as well. The peace you have in your life also effects your thinking. If you speak negativity to those around you, you feel negative and stressed. Stress we all know can effect you physically and emotionally, so why is it hard to believe it can effect you spiritually.

Life is full of joy and sorrow, that we are guaranteed. How you choose to deal with these two emotions is your choice. It is easy to rejoice when you are happy and there is joy in your life. Choosing to find the positive in bad situations is not so easy. Nothing in life happens by chance. Understanding in every bad situation, there is a positive purpose. You just have to look for it.
No one said life was easy, it's how you choose to walk it out that determines how bumpy the road.

Choosing the power of prayer can make a difference in these times of sorrow. It can lift a burden too heavy for you to carry alone. Releasing your burdens and looking for the positive results of prayer can make your walk easier and walk of those you pray for easier. Never underestimate the power of prayer.

Zippy's Spoiled

I can't help it, but I am partial to my dog Zippy. She's an only child/dog. I spoil her to the point of ridiculous. She has her winter coats, sweater and sweat shirts, spring t-shirts and summer tank tops. I have to admit, I don't buy all these clothes. Many have been given to her by friends and family. Before Zippy came into my life, I felt dressing an animal was cruel. This dog actually loves her clothes. She loves her sweaters because she is always cold. There is no way to convince the people, who think like I use to, that this dog actually loves to wear clothes. So, I will share all the other ways I spoil this doggie diva.

She has her toy basket, which she recently was given a new dog toy by a friend. She has her dog bed which is next to my bed. Her bed contains her own doggie blankets which she has had since she was born. Although, her favorite place to sleep is my bed. My husband doesn't spoil her, so she isn't allowed on the bed, not that it stops her.

I think the reason I spoil Zippy so much is the fact she is so human-like in her behavior. Her face is very expressive, friends have told me it is easy to read what she is thinking, but I already knew that. Zippy is never without a human friend.

She isn't much for the canine or feline friendships. She is an alpha dog, so she is pretty bossy. Most dogs submit to her, but occasionally she runs across another alpha and that doesn't go well. She does have a bff, my sisters dog "Oscar". She gets so excited when we head to "Oscar's" house. Occasionally, they have sleep overs if we are on vacation. Last vacation, my nephew inquired if he could keep Zippy. Obviously, he was very disappointed in my lack of cooperation to give my dog away.

What Zippy lacks for in looks, she gains from in personality. Although, a mother/owners love believes all her kids/dogs are cute. Okay, I'm a little biased in my thinking. Let me know what you think.
