My Daughters Wise Words

My 20 year old daughter has been writing poetry for many years. The wisdom in her words touches ones heart. I have been blessed to be a part of her life and through her I have gained immense wisdom. When she was younger, her view on life in general was a reality check for many adults. The scriptures say, "out of the mouth of babes" comes wisdom. Thankfully, that wisdom was not lost on her as she matured into a beautiful young adult. If you find the time please stop by her blog and read her poetry and comment on it if you like it.

Changing blog templates

My very good friend told me how to change my blog template last night. So, being gregarious and excited for a new look, I proceeded to change my template. I need to first explain that the reason I have never changed it before, was I understood you would lose all your widgets and other details to your blog. After following her instructions I saved my current profile and began searching for a new look.

If you type in "blogger template" on a search engine, it will be like a child going to a candy store, there are so many selections to choose from. I started this adventure around 9pm last night I put my final details on my blog at 12:30 pm. It wasn't that it was hard, I just kept changing my mind. I tried designing my own from pictures I had taken on my property, then decided I didn't want that. Then I went with a more feminine look, which was not me at all. Finally coming to a decision on the blog template that I have now. After tweeking the html, I finally was pleased and finished by adding my widgets.

This morning when my young adult children whom are technically experienced went to my blog they were very impressed with my handiwork. Feeling very confident with my new techie skills, you may see more changes on this site in the future.

Walmart

I am sure many of you have received the numerous emails that show how people dress while shopping at Walmart. As we scroll through the email pictures and chuckle to ourselves, many of us do not ever get to experience the abnormally dressed people. While waiting for a prescription to be filled at our local Walmart store this afternoon, a gentleman showed up in his pajamas, with a pair of shorts over them. I could not suppress the laugh and my kids turned around to see hilarious site.

Many of you are probably thinking, maybe he was sick and needed to come to Walmart to get a prescription filled. That would be almost understanding. That was not the case, as I over heard him and his female companion chatting he did not feel like getting dressed this day. So I asked myself, should I feel guilty taking a picture of this guy dressed in such a bizarre fashion? I came to the conclusion that this gentleman wanted the attention. Many people that go out of their way to dress "odd" truly want people to notice them. For some reason, that I am not able to understand, being a freak of fashion is something certain individuals desire.

For the benefit of these individuals, I post this picture to honor all the "odd" people who fill the need to dress in unusual clothing while shopping at Walmart. For privacy reasons, I choose the picture that did not show his face.

Winter Wonderland

It's been a few years since the Midwest has seen a blizzard. This past week has left the cold bitter reality of winter across the Midwest. Many people were unprepared for the weather and were stranded while trying to travel. While others choose to defy nature and attempt to make their way to friends and families home. Our family for the most part stayed tucked into the warmth of our homes and watched outside as people tried to make their way down the road. Two of my kids did venture out in the snow yesterday to go sledding at a friends house. They were gone for a few hours, returning to tell their tale of snow drift roads and trucks that had slid off the road. I used to love playing in the snow and could spend hours outside in the cold when I was a child. Since Thursday night, I have gone outside twice taking my husband coffee while he worked in his workshop. The thought of bundling up to play outside, only to still be cold, has lost its thrill for me. I prefer to drink my hot coffee and watch the kids play in the snow through the window.

I'll take 100* degre summer weather any day of the week over this blistery cold weather. I know some people prefer the cold, but your activities are limited with the snow and ice. The heat of the summer never has bothered me and there is so much more you can accomplish outside when it is warm. So as I stay confined to my wintery prison, I will count the days until spring brings me warmer weather.

Wholesale Beads

Beadsofcambay.com offer a variety of alluring wholesale beads. I recently discovered this site and find myself going there frequently to checkout their newest wholesale beads. They have wholesale gemstones as well as sterling silver and copper beads. I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to their beads. With a variety of shapes and rich colors the possibilities for designing jewelry are endless. If you are undecided about the design you are looking to create, Beadsofcambay.com has a tips & suggestion page to help you with your choices. Their expertise and experience have made them the premiere wholesale beads distributor in hand-selected beads to wholesalers and retailers worldwide.

I personally have a fondness for the pearls. They have a wide range of beautiful colors and shapes. I found it fascinating to learn that the different colors come from the mussel species, genetics, water quality and the position of the pearl in the shell. Choosing from the luxurious colors is so exciting and beadsofcambay.com guarantees that every order gets their double commitment to quality and style. On orders in the United States over $100.00, they offer free shipping. If you are looking to view the beads up close, you can find beadsofcambay at the Intergalactic Bead and Jewelry Shows. Avatar 3D

This movie is definitely an interesting movie to go see. The CGI (computer generated imagery) was absolutely fantastic. You get lost in the movie and forget the blue people are not real. I personally did not care for the spiritual tone of the movie, I felt the writer of this movie pushed the "green" theme and a new age spiritual belief. I'm not saying that is wrong, it's just not my thing.
Let me know your thoughts, I look forward to your comments.

Growing Older

As I reflect on this past year, I can say for certain there is one thing that was consistent through out the year. My realization that I am old. I am 45 yrs old and I now know at what point I became old. As a child, you looked at adults and you thought to yourself, wow that person is old. Now being a child you did not know their age. By their actions and words you judged them as old. As I became and adult, over the age of 18 yrs old, I thought old was somewhere in your sixties. As I grew into my twenties I rethought that theory and old was in your seventies. In my infinite wisdom of my thirties, old was surely in your eighties.

Now I am 45 yrs old and I ache when I get out of bed. I thought you were suppose to be rested and ready to hit the floor running in the morning. Somewhere between 40 and 45 yrs old, my body hit the floor if I tried running. The only good nights rest I get is when I take a couple Tylenol PM and even that isn't enough to prevent my dogs snoring from waking me up occasionally during the night.

I am not sure what is worse my fluctuating hormones or my poor vision. I need a shirt warning people my moods change every few minutes. If they don't like my mood wait a few minutes, it will change. I use to be a person that let things roll of my back. I accepted the fact some people would not like me for who I am. Now I find my feelings getting hurt if someone is upset with me or doesn't like me. I think to myself, who are you? Now I understand married mens midlife crisis, they are freaking out about the stranger that is suppose to be their wife. To top it all off I am having trouble reading small print. I know I need bifocals, but have been resisting this aging process. I love to read and this aging process is making it more difficult. Next thing you know, I will be listening to books on tape and having my kids read the ingredients list on food cartons.

In ten weeks I will be a grandmother. I look forward to this aging process. This aging process comes with benefits. Spoiling your grandchild rotten! With age comes patience, something I have developed over the years. I'm not so sure if it's patience or too tired to argue. Although, depending on my hormonal mood, I might argue for the sake of arguing. I'll end this with my favorite motto, "Growing old is inevitable, but growing up is optional".

Puerto Rican Coffee

A friend of ours who lived with us for about a year and a half use to get us Puerto Rican coffee. I have tried to purchase some one line since he moved away, but don't know which brand to buy. I would ask him what brand he bought, but he travels and is terrible about staying in contact. I would really like to purchase some more, but fear I will choose a brand that isn't so good.

Now I am sounding like my mom, who can't make decisions. No offense mom. So, I thought I would toss this blog out there for my fellow followers to ask if you know which Puerto Rican coffee brand is the best. If you don't know, but might know someone who does, send them over here to drop me a note. Not that I need a java fix or anything. Okay, I admit that I do need a fix and I am shaking so badly I am having a difficult time hitting the right keys. I'll keep checking my comments, praying someone out there can help me out.

My blog

After watching Julie/Julia it inspired me to work harder on my blog Valea's Thoughts. So, I have been researching ways to improve traffic and build alexa tank. I never thought when I started this blog that you would have to work at building traffic. Now that I have been writing for almost a year, I am finally taking the bull by the horns and joining groups and communities to learn how to create a more noticeable blog.

First, I realized I need to be more consistent on writing and not letting life get in the way of my blogging. Being the mother of three young adults and a self employed husband that can be difficult. As many people know, working from home can be a challenge. As I try to establish myself as a writer, people seem to think you are not really working. Research takes time and building your site also takes time.

Second, I can never forget to have fun. That is why I write, to be able to express my thoughts and put them out there for others to enjoy. It's like opening up the top of my head and peeking inside to see my thoughts. When my daughter was young, I asked her once, "what goes on in that little head of yours". After thinking for a few minutes, she said something very profound. "Not much, it's kinda quiet, not very cluttered". I laughed at the pure innocence of a child's mind. As I have grown older, I realize to be able to view our mind and see what condition it is fascinating. If I were to describe for the reader what goes on in my mind, I would have to say ALOT. My mind is always racing. Thinking of the things I need to do, want to do and can't do. I have random thoughts that make me question my sanity. An example would be, do dogs speak to us and get frustrated when we don't understand their language? Is that why they tilt their head at us sometimes? I will see a dog and it is just staring at me and I wonder what the dogs thoughts are. Of course I wonder that about people too. If only people knew how much I didn't say that I was thinking. It's probably a good thing, because I tend to have an opinion about everything and some of them are not so kind. I imagine if I said my thoughts, I wouldn't have many people that liked me. I've learned to keep my mouth shut, sometimes, for the sake of family, friends and people in general. Although, blogging has been a wonderful outlet for all those kept opinions. I have been able to release my opinion on life in general and stay anonymous. Sometime I will share my thoughts on children and Walmart. I think I shall title it, "What Not To Do As A Parent". I am sure I will either offend or you will totally agree with my thoughts.

Finally, as I reflect on Valea's Thoughts I realize that it takes time to build any site and I must not give up. Eventually, I will have a steady stream of readers that stop by because I have good content. As alway, I look forward to your thoughts and comments. Thanks for following my blog.

Zippy

A little over a week ago I wrote a blog about my dog, Zippy. I shared with you all her history of false pregnancies and her current false pregnancy. We are coming to an end of this pregnancy, so I thought I would share a few highlights with all my blog followers.

For the first five days, we saw very little of Zippy. She kept herself in her basket with her baby slippers and baby stuffed panda. She did not eat and drank very little. Occasionally, I could tempt her with chicken, but for the most part she was fasting. Approximately on the sixth day, she was leaving her puppies (aka slippers) and venturing out to spend time with me. By the eighth day she was bringing her puppies with her, which entailed a lot of work. She would bring them one by one and drop them at my feet then look up at me to see if I would help her out. It was such a pitiful site.

For the last couple of days she only carries the panda and one purple slipper with her. She will place them on the chair with me and then curl up and snuggle. It truly is precious, but sad. I thought to myself the other day, she really would be a good mommy. I imagine with in the next day or so all her puppies will be weaned and she will go back to normal. I can then wash all my slippers and replace them in my closet until the next time.

Marketing Your Business

My husband co-owns C & H Construction company. With the economy struggling and people holding tight to their purse strings. We have been looking at ways to promote our company and build traffic. If you understand SEO's, you understand the importance of having a good listing and how it greatly improves your visibility and search ranking. Which ultimately will help improve your business.

Having worked at improving my SEO for my blog, I understand how time consuming this can ultimately be for a person. When time is money, companies can turn it over to Universal Business Listings and they take care of the hassles for them. With one small annual fee, your company can be seeing more traffic and visibility.

Gemology

Recently, I have been thinking of returning to college. I have thought about several majors that interest me. One of which is gemology, the science of dealing with natural and artificial gems and gemstones. While doing my research I discovered a company online that sells gemstone wholesale beads. They have a $500 dollar bead give away sweepstakes taking place now. The drawing will be January 1st, 2010. Several of the gemstones really caught my eye.

The White Pearls beadsofcambay.com had are absolutely beautiful. The beadsofcambay.com White Pearls measure 10 - 11 mm in diameter and have a high luster. I would absolutely love to create a pearl necklace with these White Pearl wholesale beads from beadsofcambay.com . My grandmother owned a pearl necklace, to be able to recreate that strand of White Pearls with beadsofcambay.com would be fantastic.

Beadsofcambay.com has Moss Aquamarine beads that would be beautiful with the White Pearls from beadsofcambay.com. My friend would love a more contemporary necklace. Some people consider the Moss Aquamarine a power stone that rids anger. Coupled with the White Pearls from the beadsofcambay.com, which is considered a heliotrope of courage. It would be a powerful necklace.

On top of having the gorgeous beads, beadsofcambay has great customer service. If you are looking to create the perfect personal gift, beadsofcambay has worry free shopping. They also have free shipping for orders over $100 in the United States. If you hurry you can register for the $500 dollar bead giveaway sweepstakes.

Airports

Yesterday as I took my son to the international airport. I was totally amazed at some of the people that were milling around the airport. We arrived an hour and a half early. We didn't plan on being there that early. After running errands, we were ahead of schedule. Being early left us with time to sit and observe the human drama of life at the airport.

There is a freakish amount of public display of affection. I wanted to carry a sign that read, "get a hotel room". Does it not occur to these people that they are in public. While sitting with my cup of coffee, I was treated a show of reality drama. A young female employee, felt the need to scream and yell at her boss. Flinging her financial situation out for all of us to hear. I thought to myself, does she not have any humility? Maybe she has watched too many reality TV shows and felt she was auditioning? I decided to move to another seating area, hoping to avoid any more public feuds.

As I watch these people rushing to their destination. I thought to myself, do you have any idea how others perceive you? Just by watching the way someone walks, you can tell if they are self confident or not. Many were so engrossed with their cell phone conversation. They make themselves a target to someone with not so nice personal agendas. It also made me aware, as I sat there observing others, that I never know when someone will be observing me and how they will perceive me. All in all, people watching made the time go by faster. Before we knew it, it was time for my son to leave.

In a few more days I will be headed back to the airport to pick up my son. Who knows maybe i will wear a ridiculous outift and a strange hairstyle, so I can fit in to the human decor.

Adapting to Change

I will admit I have this terrible flaw. Mind you, it's not my only flaw, but it is the one that bugs me the most. I can not adapt to change very well. I plan, organize and schedule my day down to the minute. When someone throws a kink into the day, it takes me sometime to adjust to the change of schedule. Now that I am older, I have quit throwing temper tantrums. Ok, I still throw them in my mind, but I no longer toss myself onto the floor.

You've probably already figured out I am not much of a spontaneous person. I have never experienced just getting into the car and taking off for the weekend. Now there is a part of me that really wants to do this, but then I think to myself about all the things I need to do in order to be gone for a couple of days. I can't imagine what it would be like to just let life happen.

I bet your wondering why this article came about. This morning my mother in law called, the pipes burst in her home and she needed my husband and sons to come help her out. My husband canceled his appointments for the day. My oldest son was suppose to take my youngest son to the airport (he's leaving town for the weekend), so know I am taking him to the airport. I was more then happy to be able to help. Then the neurotic side took over. I had planned on cleaning my house and baking for the weekend. Instead of tossing aside these meaningless task, I freaked out and began cleaning and trying to get the baking done. Snapping at my innocent daughter to help me. In my mind I was thinking, "can't she see I have so much to do!" She tried to appease her crazy mother, but I continued to snap. Finally, she worked along side me and we finished the task at hand. I can not tell you what awesome daughter I have.

In retrospect, I realize my behavior is a bit ridiculous. After apologizing to my daughter, I am going to focus on being more free spirited. Who knows, you may read a news article about a crazy women running around in an exotic vacation spot. Ok, that's probably unlikely. I'll work on not freaking out about minor schedule changes in my household first.

Who is Vivek Kundra?

How many of you have heard of Vivek Kundra? He is a man in the position of our governments CIO (Chief Information Officer). Haven't heard of a CIO, let me bring you up to speed. A CIO is responsible for information technology and computer systems. Our goverment spends an enormous amount of money trying to keep up with information technology. Some of it is wasteful, Vivek is wanting to curb that spending. Vivek Kundra is focusing on making information available online. He would like for the average citizen to be able to get online and check the status of the stimulus money being spent or other information.

This is a concept Vivek Kundra is familiar with creating. He is known for overhauling the D.C.'s government tech system. He replaced this system with one that provides real time data to the mayor and his deputies, about where money is being spent. With this cloud based Web application, Vivek Kundra caught the eye of the Obama administration. Leading him to the position of CIO.

The most significant step so far has been the development of data.gov. This project launched May 21, 2009 with 47 data sets and currently host over 118,000. What is data.gov? It is a collection of federal data housed on www.data.gov. This web site is open to public access and provides easy- to-use-tools. Vivek Kundra welcomes suggestions and data sets that people would find useful. With Vivek Kundra's help, we will move in to the future of information at a fingers touch.

Headline News

Out of curiosity, when did peoples personal life become headline news? Has our society become so distorted that a star athlete or an actor/actresses extramarital affairs become more important then our economy? Not since the early 19oo's has our world economy suffered as it is today, yet the media is focusing on a star athletes troubled marriage.

Where did our decline of moral decay begin? My guess would be our educational system and our family structure. Our education system (USA) is one of the worst in the world. I'm not knocking the hard working teachers, as many of my family and friends are educators. I'm talking about he guidelines the state and federal has put upon these educators and the funding that is not available. Our family structure has decayed by putting the needs of children on the back burner. With divorce and two parent incomes leaving kids to fend for themselves after school. Kids are raising themselves and younger siblings. People have put themselves in financial slavery to keep up with the "Jone's". Parents with consuming debt and financial burdens do not have the option to have a stay at home parent. A parent who isn't taxed from a stressful day at the office, who has time to devout to helping their child with homework and to be there for them when they need a shoulder to emotionally lean on. If kids are left to their own devices they will set in front of the TV and play video games or watch mindless television shows.

Do I think the children whom have one parent staying at home are more intelligent or capable of understanding world issues? No, what I am saying is this child will develop communications with an adult. This child will interact with someone and have a healthier relationship with his/her parents. This child will have more confidence. Don't get angry at me if this touches a nerve, do the research and find out for yourself. Our children are slipping through the cracks of society. They are the future of this nation and of this world. I think it is time to invest in them and not focus on trivial media information about someones personal life.

Getting older

Since my mothers automobile accident, she has been acting a little different. Normally, my mom has the social graces to leave her personal opinions to herself. I know, your asking your self what happened to me. It's not so much her personal opinions are bad, it's how she is expressing them. My mother had the grace to smile and accept a gift, finding something positive to say about it. At her 71st birthday this last week, my sister gave her a throw for her couch. My mothers commented, "oh, this won't match at all". My sister who has the eye of a decorator said, "yes it will mom, I checked". My mom, in turned replied "trust me it won't". OUCH! My mom has an opinion and is not afraid to use it.

She also received a pre lit fake Christmas tree from my sister. Mind you, my mother has been wanting one, because it is so difficult to find a way to get a real one every year. Late in the week, my sister called to see how the tree looked. My mom exclaimed, it's ugly, in a fit of giggles with her friend that was visiting. My sister asked her to repack the tree and she would pick it up. Her feelings were hurt. When my sister called to vent to me, I could not help but wonder what had happened to my diplomatic mother.

While comforting my sister on the phone, it dawned on me. As we grow older our bodies are slowly deteriorating. I think when we are younger, we have this wonderful filter from our brain to our mouth. As we grow old, it starts to deteriorate. I have seen this happen in elder friends, they become bold with their thoughts and speech. Hallmark cards, markets a card line called Maxine. Maxine is suppose to represent how as we age, we can pretty much say what we feel. This could be dangerous for someone like me.

As I count down the months before i become a grandmother for the first time, I realize there are alot of things I need to remember. Children and grandchildren do not really want to know what their parents think, if they are giving them a gift or help. They want their parents/grandparents to be this sweet wonderful person that is so agreeable. Most of all, they want to feel they are needed. They want to return the gift of help/love, that their parents so generously gave to them. SO, note to self. Never tell my kids I don't like the gift they give me. Just smile and say something positive about the gift.

Something to remind us of warmer weather

I awoke this morning to bitter cold weather. As I stumbled out of bed and searched for my warm slippers, I thought the colors of summer were slowing erasing from my mind. I grabbed a cup of hot coffee and began searching my computer for pictures of the flowers from my garden. Even though the dead of winter was looming over my shoulder, I enjoyed those beautiful pictures of my garden. I thought i would post them for all of you to enjoy as well, grab a warm drink and enjoy.

Zippy's Pregnant - NOT

Well, it's that time of year again. My dog, Zippy, is having another false pregnancy. She is 7 years old and has yet to have a litter. We have actually bred her only once, the rest of her pregnancies have only been in her mind.

The first time Zippy had a false pregnancy, we were clueless as to what was going on with our canine family member. We had been on vacation and our neighbors had been taking care of her. She was "nesting" in our bed, laundry room and under the couch. So, we began our search for puppies. When we realized there were none, we spoke to our local vet and provided small stuffed animals for her mental peace. Our vet reassured us this was not threatening to her health and she would recover in a matter of a weeks, which she did.

The following year, I awoke one morning to find all our remote controls to the television and stereo missing. I searched high and low, when I glanced over at our meek looking mutt, I discovered a guilt ridden face. After searching her dog bed, I discovered she had given birth to our remote controls. The following years, she has given birth to only slippers. Last year I awoke to her sitting beside my bed with my husbands slipper in her mouth. Proudly displaying her newest pup.

This morning, my husband awoke early to get ready to go to work. As I laid in bed thinking about my day ahead, Zippy slipped into our closet. She doesn't make a habit of hanging out in our closet, so when my husband approached the closet to choose work clothes he said, "Zippy why are you in my closet?". Then I knew, she was searching for her next litter. I informed my confused spouse that we were about to have a new litter of pups and if he didn't want his slippers to be a part of this litter he may want to make sure his closet remains closed at all times.

I quickly went to my emergency stash of pups, which includes several old pairs of slippers and a stuffed panda. Zippy and I prepared her dog bed and she quickly tucked her babies in to nurse. For the next couple of weeks she will take good care of her slippers and I will continually be looking for mine, if left in reach of her.

The benefits of Elderberry

Our family have been reaping the benefits of elderberry for several years. When we purchased out farm, we were blessed to have elderberries on our property along with blackberries, wild plums and mulberries. I did some research to find out the benefits or these berries and plums.

According to Magic and Medicine."Medicinally, elderberry has been used for common ailments, a syrup from the berry juice was once a remedy for coughs, and cold sufferers comforted themselves with hot toddies of mulled elderberry wine [...] [And] a tea made from the [Elder] flowers was taken as a mild laxative or diuretic and to promote sweating." After reading several articles on natural remedies,I discovered that the elderberry was an antiviral and used to cure the avian flu and the swine flu. We have seen the benefits of this and have recommended it to many of our family and friends.

So the next time you get a cold or the flu, don't reach for the over the counter medicine which has side effects, try something natural elderberries. Your be surprised at how well it works.

Essense of Destiny

On the wall of my office, where I spend alot of my time, I have a printed out saying that I try to apply daily to my life. The saying came from a friend of mine. I'm no sure where she came across this saying, but it made a difference in her thought process daily. I thought I would share it with my blog followers, hoping it touches you as much as it touched me. If you apply these words of wisdom to your life, it will defiantly make a difference on how you react, behave and perceive life around you.

"Watch your thoughts, for they become your words.
Choose your words, for they become your action.
Understand your actions, for they become your habits.
Study your habits, for they will become your character.
Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny."

I hope these words give you thought.

Young at Heart

Recently I received a video via email from a friend of mine. I was completely amazed at what I saw. In the email the woman in the video was suggested to be 92 years old, I'm not sure I believe that. I would put her age closer to her seventies, but what she did at seventy, I can't do in my forties.

The video opens with a man comes on stage looking for someone to dance with, from behind him an elderly woman enters the stage. The music starts and they begin dancing a nice waltz. He spins her quickly and leans her for dramatic effect. While your watching and thinking to yourself, she is an amazing dancer. She then pushes her partner away in disgust, moving to the other side of the stage. She removes her modest outfit to reveal a daring dance dress. She comments, "I want to salsa!" and the music quickly changes to an upbeat song. This lady would put to shame many salsa dancers. Her timing, tempo, movements and posture are amazing. I can not do it justice, therefore, I am attaching the video for you to see for yourself.

Star Trek

Last night I watched the DVD of Star Trek with my family. I must admit I am not a fan of Star Trek and for that matter a SciFi fan either. With that in mind, I did enjoy the movie. I had a difficult time in the beginning of the movie trying to follow the story line, but after about 10 minutes I was caught up with what was going on. The movie had humor, romance and action, keeping you entertained until the end.

I was glad to see they had Leanord Nimoy, Spock, in this film. Although, it did disappoint me that they did not have William Shatner, Captain Kirk, in the film. Chris Pine, did a wonderful job as James T. Kirk. I look forward to seeing him in the Sequel tentatively set to be released in 2011. All in all, I would enjoy seeing another Star Trek movie, even though I'm not a Sci Fi fan. Who knows, you may see me at the next Star Trek Convention.

Car accident

My 71 year old mother had her fist car accident a few days ago. It was not her fault it was the fault of a teenage girl driver, she literally just left the parking lot from getting her driver's license. She hit my moms car broadside. Damaging her drivers door and the driver passenger side door. Mom bought her '99 Protege brand new and it only had 76,000 miles on it. She babied this car never allowing anyone to eat in it, she vacuumed the carpet all the time and kept it well maintained. The insurance company sent their claims inspector out to her house today, only to tell her they were going to have to total her vehicle. The real slap in the face is they will only be giving her $4200.00 for this vehicle. The chances she will be able to purchase a vehicle for this amount with the same low mileage and condition is slim. My mother is retired and lives on a fixed income, she can not afford a car payment. How is this fair and just to her? You have a impeccable driving record, keep your vehicle well maintained and cared for, only to have an insurance company rob you.

If anyone out there has any suggestions for my mother, please let me know. Mind you we are all thankful no one was hurt in the accident. We also understand it was an "accident". Accidents happen in life, that is why we have insurance.

Dance

When I was a child I always looked forward to going to the dance store to purchase new leotards and dance shoes. I was just as excited as a 40 year old woman getting my new Bloch tap shoes. Dance has always been my stress escape, my preferred exercise and my all round comfort. Now I am sharing my love of dance with my daughter. She also looks forward to a new pair of dance shoes.

The one thing I have learned in my 40 years of dancing, dance shoes make the difference in a performance. Living in the country it isn't always easy to locate a place to purchase my dance shoes, so I rely on the internet for finding an economical and reliable source . Zappos.com has the latest in top name dance shoes and clothing. With 365 days a year free shipping it makes it convenient to shop online. Their web site is easy to use, so why bother to drive through traffic when you can shop from home?

Sarah Palin

I recently watched an interview with Sarah Palin out promoting her new book "Going Rogue, An American Life". I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed in her interview. I personally like her, even if I don't agree with some of the things she does. The disappointment comes from her book and what she is trying to convey to the public.

First of all, she complains about being told what to say and what not to say by her "handlers". Hello....she's in politics, did she not get the memo that politicians usually don't get to speak from their heart. They speak from the guys who's funding them heart. Then she commented on how they choose her wardrobe, but said it didn't really bother her because she didn't like to go shopping. She made comment that her hair and makeup were not of her choice either, but of the handlers and how the guys running did not have this problem. Implying that it was harder for her because she was female. Do you not think someone was doing the same thing to these politicians wives? What did she expect when she entered the arena that men have dominated for hundreds of years? She also complained about how the press treated her children. Mind you, I would not want the press throwing my personal life and that of my family out there for others to judge, but I also am not dumb enough to run for vice president and think they wouldn't have a field day . Especially if my teenage daughter was pregnant. It's kind of like Brittany Spears being upset because she has no privacy. She dresses herself half naked, goes out an gets drunk and stupid while the paparazzi is following her (like they might not notice), making a fool of herself and then complains because she has no privacy. Come on Sarah! She put her own selfish desires of becoming the vice president before her daughters personal needs and privacy, leaving her to be the butt of stand up comedian jokes and tabloids. Do I have a lot of compassion for her, no I don't.

Last but not least, Sarah made all her choices and can not possibly think the public will see her as a victim. She choose to do as the campaign "handlers" choose for her do and say. She choose to run for VP and put her family in the nation spotlight, she choose to not complete her job as the governess of Alaska, leaving the public to speculate on why she left office, only to have her new book released in less then a year from when she quit. Like every other "bad girl" celebrity, I am sure she will make a lot of money doing what ever she chooses, but at what cost to her family. The only true victims here are the innocent children.

Rain Rain Go Away

Have you ever felt like the rain would not stop? If I am sick of several days of rain, I can not imagine how Noah felt. I know if this was spring or summer I would appreciate all this water for my garden, but it is fall and it is dreary and cold and wet. Out here in the country, rain equals alot of mud and mud equals alot of cleaning to my floors. More rain more work.

You know it's bad when your dog looks outside and considers the options of not going outside to go to the bathroom. Even the chickens are standing in the hen house looking outside, not wanting to go look for bugs. I guess with all this rain I'll have to find something to keep me busy inside. Maybe a good book or a movie, that would be between cleaning the floors. I know when the sun decides to shine, I'll appreciate it even more. Well, off to enjoy a hot cup of coffee and watch the rain clouds pass by.

House to myself

Being the mother of three young adults, I have spent a life time sacrificing my time. I do not regret one minute of this, but I do appreciate the time that I have alone. When the family decides to go to a movie, I will almost always opt out in order to have the house to myself for a few short hours.

Then you get that one child that feels bad for you and wants to stay behind so that you won't be alone. I can't be so cruel to explain to this child that his presence is not needed. Some day, he will understand, when he has children of his own and I will delight in staying with him so that he won't be by him self. I am only kidding, knowing this child he will call me up and apologize for robbing my of my alone time.

So, I will take this time and use it to build special memories. I will watch a movie he likes and buy us a pizza that he likes and appreciate the fact that I have raised a son that is so considerate to be concerned about his mother. As I grow older I understand that time is short, the days are numbered that I still have my three young adult children living with or near me. I am grateful for this time. I know that there will come a day when they have families of their own and will not have the time to spend with me. By that time, I will have more then enough "alone" time and a house to myself.

2012

There is a new movie that is being released today, it's called "2012". It's plot line is based on a global catastrophe. Scientist discover the Earths core is heating up and soon the Earth's crust will disstabalize. Like other catastrophe movies, the goverment leadership are aware of this coming doom, but chose not to tell anyone...so the viewers are more aware of this then the characters in the movie. The reviews have this movie rated well with action packed scenes.

Many people believe in an "end of the world" situation in the year 2012. As our society grows closer to the ticking down of time, we will see more and more of these types of movies. There is a whole underworld of people totally convinced that because the Mayan calender ends on December 21, 2012, this indicates that it is the end of the world as we know it.

I'm sure many people will make a small fortune off of these people, much like those who choose to profit off the fears of the people over the Y2K situation. My view is this, no one is promised to wake up tomorrow. My world may come to an end before 2012. Fearing a future catastrophy that is several years away makes no sense to me. Live each day as though it is your last day. Tell the ones you love how you feel. Forgive those who have hurt you and walk life out, so that is pleasing to the Heavenly Father. Greet each day as though it is a gift, because it is a gift.

Out of touch

Wow. I just realized I have not blogged since August. September and October were tough months health wise for me. My family went on vacation and we have had major building project on our small farm. Both of which, left me with little time to blog. While on vacation, my family and myself were sick with the H1N1 flu virus. We are all recovered, it slowed us down for a couple of weeks. On top of all that, my family lost a dear friend in an automobile accident. He lost his job in August and thought he still had life insurance (long story), come to find out he did not. This left his spouse in a financial crisis. So, we are trying to help this widow ready her home to sell this coming spring. One thing I have learned from all this is.....do not take life for granted! You are never promised tomorrow, so live life as though there is no tomorrow. With that being said, if I'm around tomorrow....I'll write another blog.

1- 800 Flowers

While most people think of beautiful flowers during the spring, flowers are a wonderful gift anytime of the year. I actually enjoy giving the gift of flowers in the fall and winter. They give color and cheer to your home or office.

I also enjoy giving gift baskets. My nephew recently broke his ankle playing hockey, so I sent him a get well gift basket. Finding a gift for a teenage boy isn't easy, but he loved it. With same day flower delivery 1800flowers.com, is always my choice.

So if you're having a tough time deciding on what to give a loved one, remember the gift of flowers or gift basket wonderful gifts. With the convenience of shopping from home and same day delivery, you can't lose.

Yard Sale

Just commit me now....I have obligated myself and my yard to a yard sale for 5 families. I think it has been 15 years since I have had a garage sale...and there is a reason for this. When people like myself decide to clean out the closets, basements, attics and garages, they do so to get rid of junk. Mind you...some of this junk it pretty good stuff...but you happen to not need it anymore. So, you price it all and have a sale. On the sale day....you are obligated to sit in your garage/yard for the entire day, in case someone decides to stop by. Hopefully, you can sale most of it or all of it....but if not...you have to haul it all back into the house/garage and restore it. If your smart...you'll call a charity to come and pick it up...so you never have to find a space to put it all back.

One a good note....my basement and closets are clean! I'll let you know how we do at our sale. Looking forward to meeting some interesting people.

1800 Flowers for new baby gifts

My sons best friend and his wife just had another baby. I was pondering what to get them, so I went internet searching. I thought I would get some flowers for the mommy, as she was the one who did ALL the hard labor. I know I appreciated it when someone thought of me. While searching for flowers I found baby gifts at the same site. 1800flowers.com made it so easy to purchase a gift for mom and baby.

There was only one problem, there were too many choices! They had so many unique flower arrangements and gifts, it was difficult to choose. After selecting a rose bouquet for mom and a personalized teddy bear for the baby, it was quite a relief knowing I never had to leave home and they would receive it the next day. Talk about convenient, leaving me time to play in my won garden.

In Alaska he fishes for salmon, in Roscoe, N.Y. he fishes for brook trout, in Long Island, N.Y. he is fishing for shark. He has been known to even make his own fishing pole if the need arises and he doesn't have one of his many poles. Sak Narwal is definitely a dedicated fisherman.

Sak Narwal likes to fish for both fresh and salt water fish, enjoying the connection with nature while fishing. K-Designers understands the importance of quality remodeling and you pay when the job is complete and are 100% satisfied. Nachshon Draiman

My dad recently spent some time in a geriatric facility. Most of us don't think about these places until you have a loved one staying there. Nachshon Draiman is a man who did think about these institutions and wanted to improve upon them. He was trained in psychology and social work and put his skills to work by changing the mechanic of managing the facilities. Nachshon Draiman felt the importance of spending less money on management and more money on the elderly care.

Today, Nachshon Draiman facilities are considered models for quality geriatric long term care. These facilities regularly receive positive reviews from state regulatory agencies and various other associations. If you ever have to have a loved one staying at a geriatric center, look for a facility that cares about the patient more then the money.

I want new furniture

The kids are grown and moving out and I was looking at my furniture today and thinking to myself, "man, I would love to redecorate my home" I found a site that I loved their furniture and would like to do several of my rooms with their furniture, a rustic style. I also love antiques so I would like to have my bedroom done with a antique bed, night stands, wash basin and antiques dressers. I have a quilt that I am almost finished with that I would love to put on the bed. I would love for my main bath and living room area to be the rustic furniture. I want a comfortable setting for friends and guest. In our basement I would like a gaming room with a bar and a fun place to hang out with friends and family. My kitchen I would like a more classic and practical feel.

I suppose many people would like to have one type of look through out the house, I prefer to have different setting through out the house to suit the mood I am in at the time, I can go to a different room. Does that make me fickle?

Real Property Management

I have a friend that lives in an apartment and is having some difficulties with the neighbors. She has talked to management, but that has not improved her situation. She has decided not to renew her lease and to find a new place to live. While searching for apartments I told her she should look at who manages these apartments and if she were to have any problems, who would be taking care of them.

She has found a place to live and found out that a company called Real Property Management manages the property. RPM manages over 20,000 units nationwide and Freddie Mac has Signed an exclusive agreement with Real Property Management to manage the new REO Rental Initiative. If that is not impressive enough, received the "Franchise of the Year Honorable Mention" award and was featured in in the Biz journal of Cincinnati and Columbus. Because RPM Midwest joins the National Association of Residential Property Managers to ensure the highest standards in property management services she decided to move into her new apartment.

I highly recommend before moving into your next apartment, condo or rental home to check to see who is managing the property. RPM does credit and multi state criminal background checks, so their tenants feel comfortable knowing they are living in a safe place. It is worth your peace of mind and your time.

Road trip to Arizona...I wish

I spoke with my mom last night on the phone and she informed me that my sister and her were taking a road trip to visit my brother in Arizona. They wanted to know if my daughter and I wanted to join them. Man, do I need a vacation! My thoughts went to all the responsibilities I have going on here, the garden, the chicks, my son and his new wife are still working on their new home. I had to decline with much sorrow.

She began to tempt me with how nice the weather was there. With all the rain and humidity in the Midwest, I have to admit I was ready to throw all cares to the wind and jump in the car. My brother has tried to get us to move to Arizona for years, he would like nothing more then to have our family together in Arizona. Mind you, it is very tempting when we have ice, snow and freezing temperatures in the middle of winter. Although, I could do with out the scorpions and rattlesnakes. I suppose every paradise has it's downfall. Maybe next year I can road trip it to Arizona. Until then, I'll have to deal with the hot and humid weather of the Midwest.

How can a large company effect little ole me?

Chevrolet is merging with Fiat, how does this effect me you ask? My son owns a Dodge Ram truck, he bought it 11 months ago from a local dealership. Now we are usually Ford people, which will make since later. Every child has to make his/her mistakes in life and they don't want to just learn by their parents mistakes. So, 11 months ago, my son decided to take out a car loan and bought this Dodge truck. Since the purchase he has regretted it and is still learning life lessons.

From my previous post you know he just got married and as I type this is on his honeymoon. The problem is, he isn't having very much fun. That would be because the night they arrived at their destination, his fuel line going into the injector ruptured. It should have been no big deal, but because it's a DODGE/CHEVROLET it now is a BIG deal. He took it to the dealership to have it repaired, because it was under warranty. They informed him that they may not be able to locate the part and have it repaired by the time he needs to come back home. Due to the difficulties of this merger, things between dealerships are running a little slow. To top things off, they would not give him a rental car. "So sorry for your inconvenience sir", seems to be their motto. Today I finally reached my limit with the dealership and phoned them myself. I found out they would be happy to give my son a rental car, but none are available. Hmm, I wanted to say, my son would be happy to make his car payment, but there seems to be a lack of funds available.

How is it that a large corporation can expect the little guy to make his payments or his car is repossessed, yet they do not have to fix his car so that he is not inconvenienced? It makes no since to me. SO, as the little guys mom, I decided to make a shout out to everyone and tell them DO NOT BUY CHEVROLET! That's right, I can not fight this large corporation one on one, but I can give testimony of how they treat their customers. I know this probably won't hurt them, but it makes me feel better. As I spoke earlier, we are FORD people, we have never had a problem and they treat us good. I can't ask for more then that.

I am officially a mother in law

I have been on a sabbatical from the blog writing this past week, because I was busy preparing for my sons wedding. He was married yesterday in a wonderful and intimate wedding ceremony. As I woke this morning, I spent time reflecting on yesterday and how the day was blessed. Then is hit me......... I AM A MOTHER-IN=LAW!!!

Now for the past 45 years I have been a daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, friend, wife and mother, but now I can add mother-in-law to my titles. I was so excited, especially because my daughter in law is a sweet and amazing girl. Our family just loves her so much. So, as I end the day reflecting on my new role as mom-in-law, I pray that I can fulfill it with love and joy.

Babelfish

I wanted to view another bloggers website today but it was written in spanish. I can not read fluent spanish, so I went to babelfish.com and had it translated. It was so much fun....I wrote a comment on there and had it translated from english to spanish. I know this is probably something everyone already knows, but I found it fun to be able to leave comments on someone elses site in their language. How well did it translate??? I don't know...I'll let you know if they write back angry with me :)

So, don't let a blog that is written in a language you don't know prevent you from browsing it and commenting on their site.
